Our OPAL Play Picnic
Thank you to all parents and grandparents who joined us for our Play Picnic on Thursday 6th October. Everyone walked to the field at midday and settled down onto tarpaulin to enjoy our picnic lunches. We were very happy to welcome Michael Follett, the man behind the OPAL ethos, to our picnic, alongside the OPAL lead for the North East, Ingrid Wilkinson.
We had been worried about whether parents would egage in play with their children; or even if they would remember what to do with cardboard boxes, pallets, crates, tyres and other loose parts. We had set out little play prompts and activities, but in the end, these were not at all necessary! Parents and children took to it like ducks to water and had a fantastic time, as our photographs show (mainly on the home page slideshow)! Of course, children have being playing in line with the OPAL ethos in our school yard for a whole year now, however, this was the first time we were able to support this on our school field becaue it is remote from the school. This was made possible because we were lucky enough to recieve Awards for All funding to enable us to build a play shed and eco loos.
