Sandcastle Challenge 2016

Every year, the local charity 'Children North East, host a fundraising event at South Shields. This is the Sandcastle Challenge and we have taken part for three years as a whole school. We divide our children into five mixed age groups, each led by a teacher in the school. The children work in their groups leading up to the day to plan and make props for their sandcastles.

This year the theme was 'From Quayside to Seaside' and we decided to focus our creations on seaside themed books. The children really enjoyed the build up to this and it is fantastic to see how well the older children care for and support the younger children. Our professional partner this year was Northumbrian Water and they visited every group to help us to develop our designs and ideas.

On the day of the challenge, everyone had an absolutely fantstic time! We didn't win, but we thought our sandcastles were very creative and totally awesome!

Luckily the weather pretty much held out, even if it looks a bit dark in this picture.
